AndyLand-The Magazine Contest Winners
|
The entries are all in, the votes have been tabulated, and we are now ready to announce
the winners of the AndyLand-The Magazine contest!!!
As you probably know, this contest was created in honor of the appearance of this fan
club in ESPN the Magazine. Each contestant was asked to describe in 50 words
or less, to what lengths he or she would go to support his or her favorite player, Andy Fox.
As we expected, there are quite a few "committed" fans out there willing to sacrifice body
and soul to support Andy Fox. As determined by our judges, whose decisions are not guaranteed
to be based on anything, least of all rational thought, the winners are as follows:
Grand Prize - Our Grand Prize winner, truly deserving of the title
World's Most "Committed" Fan as well as an Andy Fox
Autographed Baseball with Certificate of Authenticity is Kerry Olney of Phoenix, AZ.
Kerry's entry, which comes to us from the "get me a bucket of water department", espouses
her willingness to go door to door in Phoenix during the month of July to get everyone to beg the
Diamondbacks for Andy's return. Our judges found Kerry's devotion to the cause, and
bravery in the face of the Arizona heat and Jerry Colangelo's stubborness, "highly extreme"
and well worthy of "committed" status. Congratulations, Kerry!
First Prize - Our First Prize winner, Marcie Vanden-Heuvel, comes to us
from Staten Island, New York. Marcie's entry, a Joycean stream-of-conciousness about
traveling all over the country, spending her life's savings on Andy Fox baseball
cards, and being derided by her frends for her efforts, was recognized by our judges
as the "most desperate" and the "best use of groveling". Our judges also indicated
that Marcie may want to revisit her choice of friends. We're here for you Marcy!
Marcy will add to her card collection the complete set of 1990 Greensboro Hornets cards,
featuring our hero, Andy Fox. In addition, Marcy will receive Andy's 1995 Columbus
Clippers card, his 1989 Christian Brothers High School card and his 1995 New York
Yankees Rookie card.
Second Prize - Last, but certainly not least, our Second prize winner who will
receive Andy's 1995 Columbus Clippers card, his 1989 Christian Brothers High School
card and his 1995 New York Yankees Rookie card is Jessica Watz of Glendale, New York
(yes, New York for you Arizonans). Jessica's entry in which she vows to brave severe
bodily harm by attending a Yankee game in the Bronx in full Andy Fox Marlins garb, caused
our judges to ask "do they make bullet-proof jerseys?"
Congratulations and thank-you to all our entrants! Be certain to keep an eye
on our Contests Page for more contests in the future.
