The AFL as 'icebreaker' - 10/15/2006 08:46 PM

There is a good article on MiLB.com with a profile of Andy Fox, that talks about him and the other Arizona Fall League coaches and managers who were once players in that league. According to the article:

Now they are all prospects again, but of a different kind.

Because it's not just the players in the AFL that are considered the creme de la creme among their organizations' prospects. It's the coaches and managers as well.

Each year, the 30 parent clubs send one staff member to Arizona, either a manager, a bench/hitting coach or a pitching coach. And those individuals are not chosen randomly. To be sent to fall ball indicates that the coach is very much on his organization's radar screen as an up-and-comer.

It sounds like we can look forward to seeing Andy Fox back in the big show sometime soon.

Fox to Manage the Clinton LumberKings - 11/3/2005 05:40 AM

The Texas Rangers announced today that Andy Fox will manage their Single-A affiliate, the Clinton LumberKings for the 2006 season. Fox replaces 3-year manager Carlos Subero who was promoted by the club to High-A Bakersfield.

Fox, who is fresh off his first managerial stretch at the helm of the Rangers Instructional League program, will join another former Yankee, Brian Dayett, who is starting his second year as hitting coach for the LumberKings.

The Salt Lake Stingers confirmed Andy Fox's retirement today.

In his nine years in the Major Leagues, Fox appeared in a total 776 games for the Yankees, Diamondbacks, Marlins, Expos and Rangers. While his numbers never accurately represented his career, the utility man showed the mark of a true teammate by his willingness to "take one for the team". He was known for his ability to play all positions including a perfect outing towing the rubber for Arizona in 1999. His popularity with the fans is evidenced in the sheer number of people reading this message.

We here at the Andy Fox Fan Club congratulate Andy on living the dream. Andy, we will miss you on the field, but look forward to watching your coaching career bloom.

Although they like to be called the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, the Angels franchise did do one smart thing this year, signing Andy Fox to a minor-league contract. The terms of the deal were undisclosed.
